Oil painting by H.W. Garratt showing a steam locomotive numbered 310 travelling through a tunnel, bordered by a seaside landscape and bottomed by a London skyline. The painting was possibly made for publicity purposes. Garratt designed and patented his articulated steam locomotive in 1907. From 1909, they were manufactured under an exclusive UK license by Beyer, Peacock & Co. Ltd. of Gorton, Manchester. over the lifetime of Garratt's design , a total of 1,636 Garratts ran on 86 railways in 48 countries. Of these, Beyer, Peacock built 1,116.
