A unique limited edition print detailing the Planet locomotive at the world's first passenger station in 1830.
The Manchester terminus of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway, the world's first main line railway, depicted in it's early months of operation. Opened on September 15th 1830, the station in Liverpool Road offered passenger and goods services to and from the port of Liverpool. Trains were operated by Planet-type locomotives developed for the new services by Robert Stephenson in a remarkable engineering programme. Unlike the smoky chimneys of the adjacent industrial sites, the locomotives burnt coke benefiting passengers and railwaymen alike.
